Need Based Financial Aid

There are various sources of need-based financial aid. There is federal student aid, state aid and aid from some schools as well as private scholarships.

Federal Student Aid

To apply for federal aid, you will need to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

FAFSA is a starting point for requesting federal financial aid. Deadlines for applying are listed on this website, as are all the necessary forms. The deadline for 2008-2009 is June 30, 2009.

The FAFSA website has a new financial aid estimator tool called the FAFSA4caster which you can use to get an early estimate of your eligiblity. You may also transfer the information you enter into the FAFSA4caster into the FAFSA application later.

Federal Pell Grant

The Pell Grant is a form of federal financial aid, it is not a loan and does not need to be repaid. It is granted to undergraduate students. The amount awarded varies.
